LEARN – RIDE – ENJOY – REPEAT

Motorcycling provides added value for individuals and society at large as a mobility and leisure tool. To ensure that society fully benefits from all the advantages offered by motorcycles, more work is necessary to further improve the safety record of riders across Europe.

Voluntary training offers a chance for the riders to continue developing their personal riding and cognitive curriculum and build safety-orientated experience and responsible behaviour.

The human factor has repeatedly been shown to be the most critical factor in accidents involving riders. For this reason, lifelong training should be encouraged, reaching out to new and existing motorcycle riders. High-quality training is instrumental in achieving the EU safety targets on the way to Vision Zero.

The motorcycle industry (ACEM), in collaboration with the German Road Safety Council (DVR) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), established the European Motorcycle Training Quality Label to promote high standards in post-license training. While many good training programs exist across Europe, the Label highlights courses that meet specific safety-oriented criteria, such as trainer qualifications and effective training methodologies. This helps riders identify programs fostering safe riding practices. Today 36 post-license training programmes, from multiple European countries, have been certified. The Label received the European Road Safety Award in 2019 acknowledging its contribution to improving road safety.

The European Motorcycle Training Quality Label is open to welcome new training centers interested of being certified and recognised for their commitment to high-quality training.

European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM):

ACEM represents the largest manufacturers of mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles (L-category vehicles) to promote a constructive dialogue with the European Union institutions.

Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM):

Founded in 1904, FIM is the IOC-recognised international governing body of motorcycle sport and the global advocate for motorcycling currently representing riders from 121 countries around the world.

Instructor Guidelines for Advanced Voluntary Motorcycle Training

The European Motorcycle Training Quality Label, under the coordination of ACEM (European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers) and FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), proudly introduces the Instructor Guidelines for Advanced Voluntary Motorcycle Training.

Focused on the most frequent real-world accident scenarios identified by the CMC study, this handbook provides a science-backed, practical toolbox for instructors looking to improve the safety outcomes and skills of their trainees.

Training experts from certified schools’ such as KNMV (Netherlands),  SMC (Sweden) and VSV (Belgium)  were strongly involved in this process together with prominent academic partners coming from:  the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), the Würzburg Institute for Traffic Sciences (WIVW), the Institute for Motorcycle Safety (IFZ), and Traffic Accident Research at TU Dresden (VUFO) and the Austrian Road Safety Board (KFV).

The Guidelines are free of charge and available upon request to ensure they are implemented by motivated training providers ready to elevate safety culture across Europe.

Please complete the short form below. All submissions will be reviewed to ensure appropriate use. Once approved, a digital copy of the Guidelines will be sent to the contact email provided.

This initiative is part of the “Learn – Ride – Enjoy – Repeat” campaign to promote continuous learning and safer riding throughout Europe.
